(Answer) Audre Lorde was an American writer who lived between 1934 and 1992. She was known for depicting the common issues she faced in her life and those times. Lorde was a feminist, womanist and even a civil rights activist.

As a black female, she wrote about all of the social injustice she faced through her life. Lorde was born to Caribbean parents and grew up in New York. She is known for her poems like “Coal” and other works like, “The First Cities”, “The Cancer Journals” and others.

Her works were bold and audacious in describing a situation for what it really was. She believed that silence led to powerlessness and separation of the people. Lorde’s work has since inspired a generation of activists about issues on women’s rights, ethnic rights and homosexual rights.

Some of Lorde’s undocumented work includes collaborations between writers from places like Europe, Canada, Australia, Caribbean etc. An abridgment of Lorde’s work called “Transnational Legacies” is still popular today amongst activists. Lorde was inspired by her mother; in turn, Lorde inspired a minority that wasn’t fairly represented at the time. This is why Lorde claimed that writing was not just a vocation but also a responsibility that she had to bear in order to over empowerment through influence.
