How has mass media have to influence American culture today?
From its inception the media has changed dramatically. Although print has long been the main type of communication, when radio and television became major forms of communication they carried with them something that words could not do. Consumers who were tuning in to the radio and watching television were now subjected to marketing messages, graphic abuse, nudity, pain and relaxation, and the beginning of celebrity idolatry The modern era started as technology grew and matured. By the time mass media has increasingly exploded, information can be accessed quicker and quicker, more and more information will be shared and viewed.
The Internet affects media growth and distribution, and ultimately gave the people the power of media transmission, now publishers and stations are no longer in charge of the media and their knowledge. While the information may be introduced by a journalist, government official, or news associate, people can access the information, add their input, and disseminate their views on the topic to others. Individuals who rely on the media build it themselves through websites, forums, social networking sites such as facebook and twitter, mobile phones and smart phones, and countless other ways of sharing content
As radio and television news first became popular, most people used that and the newspaper as their primary source of information, and did not question where that information came from, or whether or not it was accurate. It is seen in both mainstream and new media, as people have started to consume more and more content from various outlets, and find that there are more points of view and perspectives on the same subject. The latest information source is a significant influence not just on American society but on the entire planet. Media can affect people's views in serious ways, both positive and bad, for example the effect of government on the media can affect people's views.
Mass media is a very critical force in society's development and, for the most part, it's safe for individuals to engage in the knowledge that circulates. If we as individuals use caution, critical thinking, and expose ourselves to multiple media styles, being literate in the media, we can use mass media as a medium to improve our everyday lives and culture.
