1.What is the function of calcium in the body? Why is it so hard for us to absorb? Give me some good food sources and why other countries don’t rely on milk for their calcium.
2.et’s focus on vitamin and mineral supplements to start. Why do we need them or do we?
1Calcium is an important mineral of the human body. It helps in forming and maintaining healthy bones and teeth. A good calcium level in the body can aid in the life-long prevention of osteoporosis.
Calcium is required in our body to circulate blood, move muscles, and release hormones. Calcium helps transmit messages from the brain to other parts of the body.
Other food components, phytic acid, and oxalic acid, which are naturally found in some plants, bind to calcium and can inhibit its absorption. Spinach, collard greens, sweet potatoes, rhubarb, and beans are all foods with high levels of oxalic acid.
Good food sources of calcium include milk, cheese, green leafy vegetables, soya beans, tofu, soya drinks, nuts, bread and fishes (with bones such as sardines and pilchards).
why other countries don’t rely on milk for their calcium?
Because most adults around the world are unable to digest lactose in milk because they do not contain the lactase enzyme. The number of people affected by this varies from 5 percent of the population in Northern Europe to more than 90 percent in some African and Asian countries.
2. Vitamins and minerals are considered important nutrients since they play hundreds of roles in the body. They help shore up bones, cure wounds, and strengthen the immune system. They also turn food into energy and restore cellular damage.
Every day our body only needs a small amount of vitamins and minerals. Generally, a varied diet provides enough of each vitamin and mineral. Some people may, however, need supplements to correct deficiencies of specific vitamins or minerals.
