People often make snap judgments of others based on physical appearances (for example, adults with baby-faced features are seen as having childlike qualities). Do you infer anything about people based on their physical appearances? If so, what cues do you use to make these judgments? How accurate do you tend to be? How would you feel if others judged you in these ways?
The first impression of an individual is considered from this facial appearence & some facial qualities are useful in guiding adaptive behavior that trace the qualities& can create an impression. The qualities revealed by facial cues that characterize low fitness, babies, emotion,& identity are overgeneralized to people whose facial appearance resembles the unfit , babies a particular emotion or a particular identity These hypotheses are derived: the contribution of dynamic &multi-modal stimulus information to face percepation, bidirectional relationships between behavior & face perception; perceptual learning mechanisms & social goals that sensitize perceivers to particular information in faces.
Gibson’s theory of object perception states that people’s faces provide adaptive information about the social interactions they have . For example, the ‘cute’ face of a baby elicits approach and protective response while an angry face potentiates avoidance &defensive responses . Although ecological theory assumes that our perceptions of faces will often be accurate, it also proposes that attunements to certain facial information can produce biased perceptions through
NATURE & NURTURE : .,People are brought up in the environment in which they are constantly immersed ,affects their personality As one of the greatest determining factors is how people's environment acts is those people themselves. People influence their environment by characteristics they naturally possess, beginning from the initial stages of their age. The most influential & easily discernable factor that influences environment is physical appearance. This factor demonstrates that natural characteristics are ultimately the greatest determinant of personality, whetherthey inherently linked to personalityor not. therefore those characteristics that most heavily influence environment would also indirectly determine personality. If supported with experimental data, it seems this would tip the scales in the nature-nurture debate heavily towards the side of nature.
YES,its infered about people based on their physical appearences as it is also related to personality which people's nature influences their environment by looking at how physical appearance influences environment. Popkins - proposes this as a cause-and-effect relationship that should explain the development of personalities. & suggests that the most promising results should come from studying relationships between physical appearance & others' opinions, self-opinion, and self-esteem.& suggests that attractiveness is a main cotributor inthe development of personality. Reactions will vary according to how aware participants are of their appearance, their concern over looking "good," and how they think of themselves.'
As mentioned how we feel if others judge in this manner , I personnally feel that only avery small part of our personallity can be judged but cannot draw any exact conclusion what kind of the we Ican be .
I am not sure that making this experiment a "social situation" has scientific validity. I find it hard to believe that experimenters would be objective while monitoring personalities & recording reactions of participants.
