Power refers to an individual’s ability to control, manipulate and lead people in question. This would mean that this power would arise in multiple angles such as, home, society, government, religion, organizations etc. This would also mean that people who were physically strong were able to influence many and became power centers earlier. Today, there are many forms of powers and some are achieved while others are inherited. The source of power is wealth, social influence, social status etc. There are teams, groups, societies and organizations and each has a different meaning for power or the authority. When there are few people who use coercive power, others use authority as the form of power to initiate good actions and motivate people. Power keeps shifting depending on the economic and political ideologies of the leaders while people with more intelligence and management skills rise to power in organizations. Power has shifted from the hands of the patriarchy to women in individualistic cultures thus, power centers have moved. Thus, defining power with one instance would become more difficult.
