Dosage, route and administration of Teciferda drug
- This drug comes in the form of capsules that should not be taken in the crushed form nor it should be chewed.
- The starting dose is of 120 mg for the first 7 days twice a day that is taken orally with or without food.
- 240 mg of the dose is taken after 7 days twice a day orally.
Evaluation of Tecfidera
- The patient must be evaluated for the presence of a few side-effects, which are-
Flushing; nausea and vomiting; redness, rashes and itching; abdominal discomfort, pain and improper digestion.
- The serious side effects are flushing, lymphopenia and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.
- Other than this, if the patient has new weakness or increase in weakness; changes to eyesight; difficulty in using your arms and legs; and changes in strength or balance.
- Evaluate the patient if he/she is allergic to tecfidera.
- The side effect of tecfidera is unknown in pregnancy. So, if the pregnant patient is having tecfidera then she and her baby must be monitored closely.
- If the mother is breastfeeding and also having tecfidera. Then, either she must stop breastfeeding or tecfidera. Because this drug crosses into breast milk and can harm the baby.
