Organizational culture is important to a business. Research a company and share with the class the organizational culture of the company. Is the culture working? If you were on the management team, what changes would you make to the current culture?

The company that we would be talking here is Alibaba which is the biggest business to business e-commerce firm. The culture of the organisation relates to many factors and parameters, some of the major ones are:

  • Customers are given the primary importance and to ensure that it is happening the culture is such that every new technology, innovation or service is created, it is done keeping in mind the customers and how it will affect them.
  • Embracing diversity is also a major part of their culture.
  • Adaptive learning and learning from the mistakes for both employees and marketing campaigns or various experiments that run across the company.
  • Trust among employees and also the need and will to constantly improve is a part of their culture.

Yes the culture is working since the employees are focussed about the innovation techniques that help to serve customers better and create better solutions for them. Team members have a good amount of trust and hence they are able to deliver better results. Some of the changes that I wold want to make is that I will put my employees first rather than customers since I believe that employees should feel respected and happy so that they can deliver what the business expects and would want to focus less on profits and more on building stringer solutions.
