Your task is to research the organizational culture of a particular company. The company does not need to be in the hospitality industry, but it cannot be the same company as one chosen by any of your group members.

The company that I have chosen for analysis is Wells Fargo - there 4th larges commercial bank in the world with the market capitalization volume. The company has a strong sales culture within the organization and has previously been criticised for it's malpractices and unethical selling practice.

The Interesting Factor

This is over a 150 year old organization and has its organizational culture deeply ingrained within it's working style since a long time but with the market criticism the organization has introduced many ethical programs to bring about a change in the core values of the company. The efforts to replace a 150 year old culture within a two or three year span makes this organization an interesting subject for study and when it's management emerges and comments in media conferences that it has changed the culture of the organization, this intrigues me further.

The Impact

This organizational culture of Wells Fargo that is bent towards promoting their bottom lines is highlighted by the revenue targets that they profess to achieve year on year. All policies of Wells Fargo are dictated towards business growth and development and hence the wild target chasing game is always on within the organization. This has the employees sensitive towards business bgrowth and at times certain malpractices are left unseen. Today with the ethical programs being encouraged within the organization there is a stress by the top management to remove certain malpractices from within it's system. This has led to some confusion from the standpoint of the organization's old culture. The way Wells Fargo is today promoting a healthy culture that is more aware about public and society needs, this has brought about some changes within the employee way of working. These are gradual changes and would come in effect very slowly. Nevertheless the employees have become aware about the society in a much positive way as the corridor talks today are more predominant towards the public needs rather than just revenue targets.

The Company Efforts

Today Wells Fargo management is open towards talking about their organization culture and has introduced many ethical driven programs to ensure that employees are in sync with the organization point of view. There have been a surge in the CSR activities of the organization and the awareness of public and society needs is encouraged. All these efforts are made to ensure that the employees come on the same cultural platform that the organization wishes to promote. In my view there needs to be a more focused approach by the organization in sending out the message clearly to the employees on their ethical and integral approach. This can be done through redefining many conflicting policies of the organization. For instance the reward and recognition system of the bank needs to be revamped to encourage revenue but still promote ethical and responsible culture. In my view the organization has started on this new culture path but they need to go a long way to ensure that all their policies are in sync with the new culture setup.

My Point of View

If I am searching for a job I would definitely like to be part of this organization that is moving towards an organizational change and is bringing about certain positive changes within the organization. The brand value of the organization will be enhanced by their efforts and I would like to be part of this rising brand.
