What are the solutions of problems in building team at workplace?
Team building can have numerous associated challenges that might be caused due to variables like experience, interpersonal dynamics, and even a tight schedule. The best approach we can take for this is to build either a cross-functional team or a self-management team, reusing them for most future projects where we have a shorter deadline and do not want to engage in team-building exercises from scratch.
A good team needs to show a focused approach towards the overall business outcome, this means that the challenges such as a lack of consideration and inclination with the goals of the organization would eventually become an issue that would need to be addressed. We need to set the expectations from the very beginning. This means that the goals of the teams and the role of the teammates should be stated explicitly from the very beginning.
Another issue is the lack of communication, especially for a new team in the initial phases. This might encompass other major reasons like a lack of trust, information control, and/or a lack of transparency. We can build a team that communicates well, shares the information and shows accountability by allowing them not only the freedom of creativity but also by changing their frame of reference, meaning that we need to change their perspective about constraints, diversity, looking beyond the obstacles and provide our support without micromanaging. This builds self-reliance, maturity, and an increased drive and morale, but also increases communications and trust between the members, knowing fully well that they are in this together.
There are also problems such as social loafing which we counter by building a shorter team with a better connection to each other and a good rapport with the supervisor or project leader which ensures that members commit equally to the success of the project.
