Define and briefly discuss the ‘path-goal leadership theory’.
Path-goal leadership theory is defined as “leaders will follow certain behavior to motivate their employees to accomplish the intended goals”. In this theory leaders select the best behavior which will be suitable for the employees in the organizational environment so that employees will work under the leader’s path to achieve any type of goal. If leaders follow this theory there will be healthy relation between the employees and the leader. According to this theory leader can play four roles they are achievement oriented leadership, directive leadership, participative leadership and supportive leadership.
Achievement oriented leadership- In this role leader will set a goal for the employees and motivate them to achieve. Leader will expect the best performance from the employees.
Directive leadership- Leader will explain how to perform the task and it was one of the highly performed roles.
Participative leadership- This role was similar to the democratic leadership because leader always consults the employees to take any kind of decision which leads to profits.
Supportive leadership- Leader maintains friendly relation with the employees and gives the valuable suggestions to the employees when ever required so that employees never feel uncomfortable.
