Many firms today use 360-degree performance evaluations. Make a case for this type of evaluation based on the informativeness principle. What problems may be encountered from the implementation of such a system?
Answer:
According to the principle of informativeness states that any available measure of performance by the agent of the company should be factored in to the compensation he receives. The 360 degree appraisal is focussed on capturing all the elements of the performance by taking feedback from all the possible sources in the organization. The 360 degree feedback takes information from the superiors, colleagues and also from the subordinates about the performance of the individuals. Hence it takes feedbacks from all the available sources and confirms with the principle of informativeness. There are a number of issues which may come up while taking such feedbacks. Some of them are as follows
It is a cumbersome exercise
It can generate a huge data which may be difficult to analyse
It is susceptible to the loopholes like settling of scores by
colleagues and subordinates
It is time taking exercise
