1) In what ways have you noticed that #MeToo has changed people’s awareness of gender violence?

2) why is it shortsighted to blame gender violence survivors for contributing to their own victimization? Why do you think victim blaming is so common?

Solutions

Expert Solution

  1. The #Metoo movement has had significant effects in the way people view gender violence. During the peak of the movement, several allegations of sexual assaults and harassment came out against high-profile people who earlier commanded a great amount of respect from society. It is their detriment from the top that has changed the view of society. Also, people are now more receptive of the concerns that women come up with relating to gender violence and men have also learnt the distinctions between right and wrong as at times the boundaries might not be as rigid as we like them to be.
  2. It is extremely short-sighted to hold violence survivors accountable for what has happened to them. First of all, they may be suffering from PTSD and any kind of wrong behavior can further damage their personal mental sage, recovering from which may take a long time. Also, victim-blaming has been shown to develop prejudice among society against the victims of gender violence, which can never be good in the long run.
