What inhibits our ability to communicate with others about reproductive system health problems? Do our school systems contribute to this problem as we grow up? Do parents or other authority figures? How might we make it easier for people to talk about these topics
Reproductive system has always been considered a taboo to be talked about in our society. Since childhood, parents keep their children fro talking about it. Neither they talk to their children nor do they encourag nay such questions. Anything that is even remotely sexual in nature is considered a taboo. The fact that girls and boys have different bodies is never spoken about or discussed openly with children. Our upbringing is such that these things are never spokn about. In most places girls do not even know about puberty and menstruation till they reach that age.
Hence there is an implicit message to childrent that these things should be not spoken about. Reasons are many. Upbringing is one. The fact that many cultures are conservative in their approach towards differences between girls and boys. Also, some relegious beliefs are also related to these things they are not spoken about. Girls in their menstration are considered dirty.
In schools when reproducitve systems are taught teachers just brush through the topic. They never discuss te detail. Sex education is not common in many societes leading to children depending on unreliable sources for this information. So eventually school, parents and society at large become the reason.
Open ad capaign about sexual growth, sex education should be conducted with children and adolescents. Relegion, prestige and societal customs should be kept away from basic sex education. Menstruatation should be made a par of school curriculum. Even t home parents should encourage any such questions and answer them patiently and without any hestiation. More social and help groups shoud be made. Government should provide sex education on various websites and handbooks. Information about sexually tansmitted diseases should also be provided.
