1) Many people have certain beliefs or expectations about psychotherapy based on what they see in the media, what they hear from friends or acquaintances, or their own experience. Describe in detail your perceptions of therapy and how you envision a typical therapy session would progress. Also describe why you believe some people who need help never seek it.

  • People have many beliefs or expectations about psychotherapies, but sometimes it may be misconceptions. Many people are not aware of psychotherapies.
  • Sometimes it has been seen that media distort the actual form of psychotherapies, they present it as an entertainment.
  • In general way, psychotherapy helps people to live healthy, happy and productive. Psychotherapies are systematic and client gets training under the supervision of therapist.
  • There are several type of psychotherapies, which are provided to the client according to the client and his/her problem.
  • The objective of the psychotherapies are- reinforcing client’s resolve for betterment, lessening emotional pressure, unfolding the potential for positive growth, modifying habits etc.
  • The main focus of the psychotherapy is problem solving. Each session should be designed accordingto the problem.
  • A psychotherapy works better when it is provided gradually and according to the present status of the issue.
  • In initial sessions, therapist tries to know the problems in detail, s/he get every information which s/he will need for the therapy.
  • In starting sessions, psychotherapy works better on those people who are more susceptible.
  • After the few sessions, clients are asked to do some homework, given by the therapist.
  • The sessions are decided according to the problem of client.

Some people feel offended when they need to see a psychotherapist. People feel offended because people think that mentally ill. They feel socially insult because of this perception.
