what is CCR5?
What is the ligand for CCR5?
CCR5 is a C-C motif chemokine receptor type 5, similar to G coupled receptor proteins and mainly expressed on T-cells and macrophages. This is a receptor for C-C chemokines or beta chemokines which have two adjacent cysteine residues at their amino terminus.
This receptor is ligand for monocyte chemoattractant protein 2 (MCP2), macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha (MIP1 alpha), macrophage inflammatory protein 1 beta (MIP1 beta) and regulated on activated normal T expressed and secreted protein (RANTES). This receptor on binding to ligand transduces a signal by increasing intracellular calcium concentration and regulates granulocyte lineage proliferation and differentiation. This receptor acts as a coreceptor for HIV1 virus to enter cells.
