(A. Reverse Transcriptase, B. Replicase, C.DNA polymerase, D. RNA polymerase),

which is a ______________

(A. RNA Dependent DNA Polymerase, B. DNA Dependent DNA Polymerase, C. DNA Dependent RNA Polymerase, RNA Dependent RNA Polymerase.

This allows it to make new copies of its genetic material.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer:

Blank 1: Replicase/RNA polymerase

Blank 2: RNA dependent RNA polymerase

Explanation: Corona viruses are a part of the SARS virus family (severe acute respiratory syndromes). These are the virus which has their genetic material as the single stranded RNA surrounded by the capsid made of the proteins.

The virus is known to have been associated in causing a global pandemic in the current year 2020 by leading to a burst in causing the respiratory problems.

Genome of the virus: The virus is known to have a single strand RNA as its genome. However like HIV, it does not undergo any reverse transcription process. The virus has an enzyme RNA polymerase which is also called as RNA dependent RNA polymerase and the same enzyme is capable for causing replication (producing multiple copies of virus) as well as transcription (formation of mRNA which is an intermediate step for the formation of viral proteins in the host body).

The enzyme RNA dependent RNA polymerase is also called as RNA replicase and unlike DNA dependent RNA polymerases, it can lead to the processes of viral replication and transcription from an RNA template only.
