why has police violence and brutality continued in America? (2 paragraphs)
Police brutality is the abuse of authority by the unprovoked use of excessive force by personnel involved in law enforcement while performing their official duties. Police brutality can cause both physical harms as well as psychological harm. Police sometimes use intimidation tactics beyond the scope of officially sanctioned police procedure. In the past, those who engaged in police brutality may have acted with the implicit approval of the local legal system, e.g. during the Civil Rights Movement era. In the United States in the late 2010s, there has been an increase in the amount of police brutality cases.
Some of the causes of police brutality are perceived to be that the courts turn a blind eye to the evidence of patterns that are existing in the system that cause police brutality. A criminal-justice system does not allow prosecutors to pursue police misconduct vigorously. It is also perceived that the present political system does not respond to the residents of inner-city and minority communities. The current methods of police training, management, and culture can also be responsible. There exist a political culture that values tough policing.
