Solutions

Expert Solution

The spleen is the largest organ in the lymphatic system. It is an essential organ for keeping bodily fluids balanced. The spleen is a brown, flat, oval-shaped lymphatic organ, which filters and stores blood to protect the body from infections and blood loss. This organ is protected by our ribs and located between the stomach and the diaphragm in the left hypochondriac area of the abdominal body cavity.

Its role and function in the body:

The spleen is composed of the red pulp and white pulp. The spleen synthesizes antibodies in its white pulp and removes antibody-coated bacteria and antibody-coated blood cells by the process of circulation of blood and lymph node. Red pulp forms a reservoir and it is responsible for purification of blood and removal of dead or old blood cells.

The spleen is a center of activity of the mononuclear phagocyte system.

The spleen acts as a critical role in immune function because it purifies the blood and helps the immune system to recognize and attack foreign pathogens and allergens.
