Human body consists of number of organ systems that work together to main homeostasis. There are 11 organ systems. they are:
Digestive systems
Integumentary system
Muscular system
Skeletal system
Nervous system
Circulatory system
Respiratory system
Lymphatic system
Endocrine system
Urinary system
Reproductive system.
Organs and functions:
Digestive System-
Organs- Mouth, pharynx(throat), oesophagus and organs of Gastrointestinal tract, small intestines, large intestines, anus.
Functions- physical and chemical break down of food, absorbs nutrients and eliminate solid waste.
Integumentary system-
Organs- skin, hair subcutenous fats and nails.
functions- Protects from environment and bacteria, aids in temperature water regulation. Sensory function of pain, warmth, cold, touch etc
Muscular system:
organs- skeletal muscles
function- provides movement and support, produces heat by metabolism.
Skeletal system:
organs- bones, joints, cartilage, ligaments and tendons.
functions- Provide structure to the body, provides support for internal organs to lie intact, acts as reservoir for calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other minerals.
Nervous system:
organs- Brain, spinal cord, nerves and sense organs like eyes and ears.
functions- generates action potential to regulate body activities, detects change in internal and external environments, glandular secretions.
Circulatory system:
organs- Blood, heart, blood vessels
functions- oxygen and nutrient supply throught out the body, carrying wastes away from the cells, helps regulate acid-base balance, helps in defending against disease(white blood cells).
Respiratory systems:
organs- Lungs and airway passages (pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchial tubes)
functions- transfer of oxygen from inhaled air to blood and carbondioxide from blood to inhaled air, regulates acid-base balance, produce sounds.
Lymphatic system:
organs- lymph, lymphatic organs( spleen, thymus), lymph vessels.
functions- provides immunity, maturation of lymphocytes (B &T), maintaining the blood volume.
Endocrine system:
organs- hormone producing glands, pineal gland, hypothalamus, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, adrenal glands, pancreas.
functions- regulates body activities by releasing hormones.
Urinary system:
organs- kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra
functions- produces and stores urine, elimination of wastes, maintains bodys mineral balance.
Reproductive system:
organs- gonads( testis in males and ovaries in females), uterine tubes, uterus.
functions- produce gametes( sperm in males, oocytes in females), release hormones that regulate reproduction and transport of gametes.
