Which type of organ is spleen? What is its role and function in the body?
Spleen is a blood filtering or blood purifying organ of the body.
Role and fuctions of spleen in body are as:-
1. spleen filters blood keeps the check of number of RBC's in the blood and also controls the blood storage inside the body, about 30% of the RBC's are stored inside the spleen and are released inside the blood when the body is in need if a person suffer from hypovolemia.
2. spleen helps an individual to fight againist infections caused by varoius bacteria, viruses or other microorganisms because spleen contains the stored lymphocytes which produce antibodies in case any microorganism gain entry into the body.
3. Spleen helps to maintain the iron in normal level because when any damaged blood cell enters the spleen they are caught and the iron from the heamoglobin is reused again for future purposes.
4. Before the birth during the gestation period it is the spleen which is the main site of hematopoiesis.
