The Mississippi Burning murders is also known as the Freedom Summer murders. This case is about the abduction and murder of 3 civil rights activists. These civil activists were fighting to establish a Freedom School in Neshoba. These 3 activists were actively being followed with the motive of murdering them. They were caught by police in Mississippi for over speeding. They were arrested and tricked to be taken in a civilian car. This car took them to a secluded place, where all 3 were beaten and shot dead. These murders had outraged the nation and the constant agitation led to the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed with the objective to ban any kind of employment discrimination. This law covered the job applicants as well and prohibited their discrimination. The passing of this law has been considered as the most sweeping civil rights law and legislation being passed since the era of Reconstruction.
