Operant conditioning emphasizes the role of reinforcement. It is an associative learning theory that helps in modifying the behaviour through reinforcements.

In parenting it can play a wonderful role.The simplest can be when We want to teach the children to do something for example inculcating the habit of hand washing before eating.

We can first teach them how to wash their hands before eating , from then whenever the child washes their hands before eatingwithout being asked to you can reward them with clapping be it verbal or be it a non verbal appreciation for example chocolates or something that child likes.

same way whenever we forget to wash the hands before eating you can take something away from them that they like of cherish very much this is negative reinforcement and the child will take care of the habit.

This way the habit will be inculcated in the child through operant conditioning. Is a very practical in easy way that applies to parenting and it is widely used. Simply because the method is easy e and goes with the day to day lifestyle routine.
