If you were the Human Resources manager and wanted to convince the CEO/management team to implement a flextime policy (e.g., can work any 8 hours between 6 am and 6 pm) to assist employees with children (elderly parents, others) to care for, what would you say/do?

You should present your post from the viewpoint of your role as the HR manager, a senior and experienced leader, to the CEO and his/her management team. It should be a comprehensive discussion or presentation-like, using influence and persuasion techniques. Don't forget to introduce the topic as if you were in a leadership meeting with the CEO and his/her team and not all members know about your topic and request; don't forget to be clear on the request.

Today, I want to put a proposal in front of you for your approval to bring some changes in the HR policies of our organization. The change which we are planning to introduce in the organization is the “FlexTime” policy.

FlexTime is the concept where the employees of our organization can complete their 8 working hours per day between 6am to 6pm. It won’t matter at what time they will be coming or leaving the company premises, what all will matter is that they will have to complete their 8 working hours per day at the office.

Advantages our organization will enjoy after the introduction of the concept will be much more in comparison to some very few adjustments to be made initially. These are:

  1. Those employees who are married and have family will be able to schedule their working hours according to their family needs.
  2. Those who have elderly parents at home and need some good care time for them will be able to adjust their working schedule according to their needs.
  3. By giving them the advantage to Flextime the will have a feeling that organization care for them. Organization give them time to look after their family along with working for us. That sense of care will induce a feeling of belonging of employees for our organization.
  4. Feeling of belongingness will help to increase the level of loyalty for our company. Loyal employees will always think and work for the betterment of organization.
  5. We will be promoting great work life balance in our organization through Flextime. Great work life balance will results in happy employees for our company.
  6. Happy employees works more efficiently and effectively for achieving their daily and organizational goals.
  7. Productivity of employees will increase as they will be having a feeling of satisfaction while working for us. More satisfied employees means more productive workforce.          
  8. They will be aligning their daily Goals with the Goals of the organization.
  9. Our attrition rate will come down. If we are offering them a great work life balance, probability of employees moving to some other companies comes down. This reduction in the attrition rate will help us to remain competitive in industry by retaining the great talent with us.
  10. Finically also it will be efficient as the resources spent on training and upgrading the workforce according to organizational need will be reduced because of low attrition rate. This will give us a competitive edge in this fierce industry.
