Debate It. Take a position for or against Singer’s claim that each person has a serious moral obligation to do something about world hunger. Provide reasons and examples to support your view. Evaluate Fullinwider’s claim that a company’s record of discrimination will keep reproducing itself in spite of its good intentions not to discriminate. The comments made by the singer referred to by you, should be taken into consideration seriously. Yes, it is the duty of all the people on the planet, to do something about the world hunger, and try and eradicate it. World hunger can cause serious problems like – huge number of deaths, and problems in this world, and also probably disrupt economies.
How to do something for world hunger-
1. Rich people- should try and donate food as much as possible to the people who cannot afford it
2. Governments – Should try and provide these people jobs, so that they can earn their food themselves
3. Scientists- Should research and develop genetically modified crops, which are grown at very low costs, so that food production is increased, cost is lowered, and hunger is cut down
4. Corporates- Again should look to provide these people with jobs and try and make them self-dependent.
5. Common man- should at no cost waste food, eat what can be eaten, and save what can be saved, but no wastage
In the above ways, everyone in the world can do something easily to save the world from hunger problems
Fullinwider’s claim that a company’s record of discrimination will keep reproducing itself in spite of its good intentions not to discriminate.
Yes, it is true, that companies can sometime discriminate, even though they support no discrimination at all. But these activities do come up at most of the times
For example, Google which supports no discrimination, it was revealed that Google had tried to hide a case of discrimination filed against it in the court. It used its powers and tried to save the matters from reaching the press. But the news reached the media somehow, although not much was said on it.
In another example, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. was reported for discriminating on the basis of age in their hiring processes. They were reluctant to hire people over the age of 40 years, and several investigations and reports said that the discrimination was there.
