Kara is now a student in your second-grade class. She hardly ever speaks and has lots of trust issues. How can you help Kara’s situation and why should you take this approach?
Kara’s condition is such because when she was a child, she had been traumatised by her parent’s actions. A child at such an age is extremely critical to the environment that they are exposed to. As a result, she has not been able to develop her trust factors. Her trust had been betrayed by the people on whom she trusted the most. As a result, it becomes very difficult for her to trust on anyone easily.
In order to help her, it should start by trying to make her talk. It is important that the teacher is well informed about kara’s Situation before beginning any conversations with her. This would help in developing conversations avoiding the sensitive issues. It is very important to not hammer on the issues that have already bothered her, so that she would gradually move past those situations. It is important that for Kara, the situations that have already been faced, should be changed. For example, if she has been neglected, it is important that she is made to realise that she is getting the correct amount of attention. It is important that she is not given too much attention, or she may begin to doubt. Allowing the child to take her time would be helpful, without pushing, so that she would open up at the righ time and also begin to discuss her situations and what she has faced, after the right amount of trust developed. When she dies that, it would help to be a good listener and not a talker.
