Evidence-based decision making is a type of decision making where the decisions are based on the evidence that is gathered from either past cases of researches in the respective domain. The decisions are carried out based on the underlying assumption that this evidence is reliable. Hence, the decision making that relies on evidence is called evidence-based decision making. Some of the common places where evidence-based decision making is appropriate are stated below,

  1. Court of law:
    The most common example of evidence-based decision making is in the court of law where the evidence is of prime importance because the judge will generally base the decision based on the evidence available with the court of law.
  2. Business decision:
    Business decisions at a certain level are taken based on evidence from previous operations or evidence from a related company. Such evidence is then analyzed and then insights are drawn that are helpful in making the business decision. Hence, this is another example of the usage of evidence-based decision making.
  3. Medical Domain
    Evidence-based decision making is certainly valuable in the medical field because of various cases of a certain diseases that can be found worldwide and one can take cues from the past evidence to make necessary decisions for the medical treatment.

Hence, these are 3 common domains where evidence based decision making is very valuable.

One should use evidence based decision making when there is very low chanes of commitingerrors and it is desirable to have most effective decision with less data available. In such situations the evidence based decision making is very valuable because it provides much needed direction in which one can work for better results.
