Discuss the factors such as infection, diet, lifesytle and emotions impact on the effective functioning of the immune system

Solutions

Expert Solution

Infection:

Most infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites leads to activation of immune system. The activation of immune system depends on various factors like age, sex, heredity, presence of other diseases and nutritional status. Vaccination against a pathogen is developed based on the fact that infection stimulates active immunity of the immune system. However, in some cases such as rheumatic fever by streptococcal infections or thyroid inflammation by virus can be very harmful.

Diet:

Diet plays a very important role in developing active immune system. As it is mentioned in ealier text, stimulation of immune system by infection of pathogen is dependent on nutritional status. Nutritional content of the diet plays an important role in developing immune system. Diet rich in fruits and vegetables improve the antioxidants, vitamins levels in the body and thereby immune functioning. On the other hand, diet rich in saturated fat, fried food leads to obesity which affects immunity negatively.

Life style:

Good practices such as good sleep (7-9 hours), physical activity, psychological stress and fear affect the functioning of immune system. Good sleep and physcial activity improve the immune system functioning. Sleeping and waking up at the same time is a good practice. Avioding blue light source before sleep leads to effective production of melatonin which is an antioxidant. Physical activity improves oxygenation and thereby stimulating the immune cells. It also improves healing process.

Emotions:

Psychological stress, fear which was mentioned in the ealier text affect the immune system negatively. Psychological stress continously releases adrenal hormones which triggers inflammation process. Fear can be of different types like emotional, mental and can weaken the immune system. Having good maintainance of emotions can supress immune system from over reactive.
