Each individual wishes and wants to be in a relationship at some point in their life time. They have friends and family yet they crave for a love relationship which they cherish for the rest of their whole life. This means that love relationships are an integral part of one’s being and one cannot think of life devoid of love and romantic relationships. According to Sternberg, there are three basic considerations of any romantic relationship, namely, passion, commitment and intimacy. Based on the interaction on these dimensions a total of eight types of love emerge. These have been named as- liking, fatuous, empty, companionate, infatuation, romantic and consummate love and a non love. The individuals are generally engaged in these types of romantic relationships.
Love is defined as a strong feeling towards the other person. The two individuals who are romantically inclined towards each other, engage in self-disclosure and feel a commitment and passion to remain with each other. Intimacy and physical proximity is also an important factor in love relationships.
Therefore, it may be concluded that love is the basic building block of affectionate relationship between any two persons and are integral to one’s being.
