Steps to find out
hybridization:
- Find out the central atom,
i.e the least electronegative single atom in the compound and
others are surrounding atoms.
- The find out the valence
electrons(V.E) of the central metal atoms(C.M).
- Make bond pairs of one
valence electrons with one surrounding atom.
- If electrons still left
after making bond pairs , then make pair of the rest, that are lone
pairs.
- Then assign s, p, d
orbitals serially to the bond pairs and lone pairs(one s , then
three p. then five d, according to the requirement in each
compound)
- First assign s orbital,
then p if all the three s orbitals are used and still bond pairs or
lone pairs remain then, come to d orbitals.
