What type of hybrid orbitals are formed from one 2s orbital and two 2p orbitals?
Hybridisation is the mixing of atomic orbitals to give orbitals of similar energy and symmetry. The number of hybrid orbitals formed is equal to the total number of orbitals involving in hybridisation.
The mixing of two 2p orbitals and one 2s orbital result in sp2 hybrid orbitals. There will be 3 sp2 hybrid orbitals that will participate in sigma bonding (along the inter- nuclear axis).
