In what ways is Walmart trying to meet legal requirements for equal employment opportunity? In what ways do its actions exceed legal requirements?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: Some of the ways through which Walmart is pushing for equal opportunity at workplace is

1. By hiring more Veterans: Implemented a Policy which mandates to hire more than 1,00,000 veterans. Military veterans comprise of individuals with a very diverse background which automatically will led to hiring of individuals from different race, color, religion, sex, disability and national origin.

2. They have also implemented a Policy of filing more than 40% of their managerial Positions to women which is again a very good step in moving towards a gender neutral workforce. They also grant more than half of their hourly working promotions to women helping women reach leadership positions.

Actions that exceed legal requirements:

Instead of hiring just the minimum legal requirement, they are hiring close to 1,00,000 and have given a gurantee that they will hire every veteran who clears the drug test mandate of their Company which is a big thing.

Along with this on the softer aspect they are also organizing annual cultural world fair where employees from different ethnical background Share their food and arts with each other promoting better understanding of different cultures and cohesiveness among its employees.

Understanding the value of the diversity is something that Walmart should promote in its organization.
