Factors creating a hostile work environment:

• If the boss or co-worker shows partiality to a person, because he is his relative, friend or if he/she likes her/him.
• Discriminating on the bases of gender,race, caste, religion etc can also create hostile work environment.
• In other way if the boss doesn't recognise your efforts and even if you are eligible of getting promotion but he hesitates to give it to you.
• You are capable enough to get benefits but still he ignores your work.
• If your co-worker quits the job and your boss blames you.
• Your boss behaviour towards you making you do your work impossible

why hostile work environment is a bad thing means, it create tensions in workplace and problems between employer and employees.

Example of a hostile work environment: Sexual Harassment, unwelcome touch, making sexually oriented comments, doing religious jokes etc these all make makes difficult or uncomfortable to work.
