Discuss the measures for creating an environment that will provide physiological and psychological comfort during the female and the male genitalia examination.

Answer : The purpose of the genital examination is to detect abnormalities such as phimosis ,lumps, tumors ,edema ,lesions and others. It is Nurses responsibilities to create a comfortable environment for the patient during the procedure and I mention some of the preparations for patients comfort . For physiological support : (males and females ) 1) Explain the patient regarding this procedure and it's purpose to get a clear view about the genital examination 2) Take consent from the patient ( if patient is conscious ) or relatives 3) prepare the genital area (shaving) for examination. 4) Use any disinfectant solutions for applying the genital area (if doctors advise ) . 5) Ask the patient regarding allergies to any disinfectant solutions such as betadine , savlon or other scrubs before using it . 6) provide comfortable position for the patient to avoid discomfort . 7) Keep sufficient lighting devices to clear the condition of the internal organs 8) Administer pain killers, premedications or any other medications if doctors advise. 9) Tell the patient to relax and take deep breath while inserting any equipments which is very painful or uncomfort . 10) monitor vital signs before and after the procedure. For Psychological comfort : 1) Explain the patient regarding the procedure in detail to avoid fear and anxiety about this . 2) provide privacy to the patients by using curtains or other barriers . 3) Allow the patient to express their concerns regarding the procedure. 4) Assess the patient pain score after the procedure and provide medications . 4) Communicate with the patient during the procedure to know about the current feelings to reduce discomfort .
