Title VII act -
The act of 1964 is a federal law that protects the employees from any kind of discrimination based on certain characteristics such as race, color, gender, national origin, religion, etc. Under this act, an employer may not discriminate against an employee with regard to any term. The law is also enforced by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Yes, I do believe that these should be the protected characteristics of the title vii of the civil rights act, as employees who are disabled or women employees who are pregnant are being protected by other laws.
The law forbids an employer from retaliating against the employees because of employee's opposition to any practice which is considered as the unlawful practice by Title VII of the civil rights act. So, to claim for the retaliation, it is important to prove that the employee opposed the unlaw employment practice.
Hope this helps :)
