Teams are an essential factor for building a successful
business. A constant and consistent planning is required to build a
good team which understands the organization's goals, values, and
visions and deliver a good performance. The team has to be cohesive
and show great team spirit to deliver the required value to the
organization.
Discussing two characteristics which help maintain and create a
strong team:
- Choose the right people: The choice of people
is critical for creating a good team, the people should be matching
the job requirements not just the education and qualification in
terms of a number of year of work but they should be aligned in
terms of attitude, goals and understanding the larger picture of
the task. Further, they should have a broad perspective and ready
to learn and adapt to changing market requirements. The employee
should be apt at creating and maintaining the team cohesiveness.
The inclusion of people with right skill set but wrong attitude
will create a hostile working environment. For example, if you are
into tracking customer behavior you need employee having an
aptitude for a combination of social networking, customer service,
Information technology, sales and many other factors related to
it.
- Delegate: The need to empower and delegate the
authority after finding the right team and assigning them their
targets and goals is essential. Empowering employees will add
responsibility and accountability to their profile. The employee
will feel motivated to achieve the deadlines. The manager should be
careful to avoid micromanaging the activities. The employee should
be allowed a freestyle of operation within the identified role. The
role of the manager is to support the team, remove obstacles from
their paths, grant them access where required and help maximize
their results.
The other characteristics which can support a strong team are
creating a teamwork, monitoring the progress of the team and then
celebrating the team success together. These characteristics will
go a long way to giving you the desired results and maximizing
employee performance.
