The XYZ Corporation  is a manufacturing firm. For quite some time, the company morale has lagged and the work environment was negative. Management decided to address the issue by offering incentives and rewards to boost worker attitudes and productivity. The strategy worked and as productivity increased, there were still some workers who as part of their work team refused to pull their fair share. Their fellow team members shunned them as a result. QUESTION "What do you do to resolve the problem when a team mate refuses to participate as the others do? Do you remove them? have little to do with them or try to help?" Discuss in detail.

Business usually have employees that don't participate or cooperate with others. And when there is discord in the organisation, it affects everybody. This affects the productivity of the business and must be solved.

First, its necessary to understand the root cause of the issue. It can be very tempting to make some assumptions about the issue causing these problems, but more often than not, you will turn out to be wrong. There must be a variety of factors coming in play here. After figuring out this, take the steps appropriate to the situation. Reasses or reassign their roles. There is a possibility that the employee must not happy with his role or his responsibilities. Asking he work preferences and reassinging them can be a helpful way of making sure they are happy and their productivity level stays up.

It is also possible that there may be other out of work factors that could be affecting their work here. Here you need to acknowledge with the worker that there is a problem and figure out whats causing it. Let him know the behaviour changes you have been noticing and lay out an action plan to change it. A lot of the issues can also be caused due to communication problems in the workspace. Figuring out if you the issues in the communication channels is a good way to improve work quality of the employees.

Investing in motivational talks, positive employee relations is always a good idea. It creates a bonding between the workers which helps them understand each other more and connect. Workers need not always be the best of friends, but if they are strangers working together, work suddenly becomes more exhaustive. That intangible relation is what may break that and make the work environment better.

Firing an employee is not a good idea because of the extensive investment a company spends on their training and development. However if the problem still persists, maybe its time to realise that the this company isnt meant for the employee and to let him go as it is affecting the productivity of the other employees as well.
