GENERIC NAME- methylprenisolone
BRAND NAME- medrol
TYPES OF DRUG - glucocorticoid
PREGNANCY CATEGORIES- pregnancy categories C( teratogenic effects)
THERAPEUTIC ACTION- it is an anti inflammatory agent. it bind and activated the specific nuclear receptor that leads to altered in gene expression and inhibition of inflammatory cytokine.
INDICATION - arthritis, SLE, psoriasis, ulcerative collitis, gragting rejection
CONTRAINDICATION- pregnancy, systemjc fungal infections
DOSE- ADULT ( 4 mg to 8 mg ) and pediatric ( 0.5 to 0.7 mg/ kg/ day)
ADVERSE EFFECTS - stomach upset, depression, neausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, insomnia.
INTERACTION- mifepristone, wafarin, aspirin
NURSING IMPLEMENTATION
- adminstered the correct dose, route and frequency
- keep in mind that if the drug is giving then the person will be having low immunity
- educate the patient to prevent exposure to communicable disease
- maintain proper hygiene and sanitation of the environment to prevent infection.
- educate regariding the drug action indication , contraindication
- advice to consumed if the patient is pregnant.
