Type of drug :-Vasodilator
Pregnancy category :- C
Therapeutic action:- It results in relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and consequent dilatation of peripheral arteries and veins.
Indications:- *Management of Hypertensive crisis.
*CHF
*Controlled Hypotension during surgery
*Angina.
Contraindications:- Hypersensitivity, Decreased cerebral perfusion, Arteriovenous shunt and coarctation of aorta.
Dose:-IV Continuous Infusion:-start at0.3-0.5mcg/kg/min
Usual dose:-3mcg/kg/min
Maximum dose:-8-10mcg/kg/min.
"Adverse Effects"-
Excessive Hypotension, palpitations, substernal distress, tachyarrhythemia, restlessness, disorientation, psychosis, elevated ICP,Nausea ,vomiting, bowel obstruction.
Interactions:-Altepase:-It may decrease the effects of altepase
Avanafil:-Additive vasodilation. Concomitent therapy is contraindicated.
Verdenafill:-severe hypotension may occur.
Treprostinil:-Additive hypotensive effect.
Nursing Considerations:-patients on Nitropruside should have an arterial line to moniter BP bcz this drug has a profound effect on hemodynamics.
2.Always use an IV infusion device to deliver the drug.
3.Exposure to light of the incorporated medicine Causes decomposition. The IV solution and Tubing should be protected from light by wrapping with aluminium foil.
4.Monitor Renal and hepatic function.
5.Monitor for Methemoglobenemia.
