what is Therapeutic and Non-therapeutic communication?
Answer :
* THERAPEUTIC COMMUNICATION is a type of communication between the people involved in giving and receiving therapy. The therapeutic communication takes place for a specific objective. The therapeutic communication is considered as planned communication. During a therapeutic communication, the nurse should be attentive towards her patient.
* The nurse should actively listen to what the client wants to convey to her. All senses should be involved in active listening. With active listening, the nurse can identify the problems, which the client is facing. The nurse should keep aside her own problems while listening to the patient or client.
* Another part of active listening is silence. Silence is necessary, it allows the patient to think. Silence helps in the expression of emotions and feelings. There are some techniques used in therapeutic communication. These techniques enable an effective communication between the nurse and the patient.
* NON THERAPEUTIC COMMUNICATION involves various words, phrases, actions, and tones that make a patient feel uncomfortable, increase their stress, and worsen their overall mental, and perhaps even physical, wellbeing of the patient.
* This also includes giving of personal opinion in which the nurse injects his or her own views regarding care options and so on.
* This also includes probing, interpreting, making stereotyped comments, reassuring, rejecting and so on.
