Gauze dressing

A thin white fabric with a loose , open weave is called a Gauze. Gauze dressing is used for wound protection.

Sterile Gauze dressing is a basic tool used to cover the wounds and protect it from dirt and debris , keep wounds clean and to stop bleeding. It can be used for the wounds like scrapes , medium cuts, and burns and other wounds. It also can be used as a bandage, for all type of wounds, with medical tape.

Evidence-based practice:

There are a number dressing available, to cover and protect the wound. The traditional method for the wound care was to ,

* clean the wound with a socked gauze in some of the antiseptic solution, such as betadine ,

* Cover the wound , after cleaning and ensuring the bleeding has stopped,  apply a thin layer of oinment for wound healing and then cover with a gauze dressing and bandage it with medical tape.

Evidence based practices are recommending , not to use any antiseptic solution to soak the gauze for cleaning the wound, instead soak the gauze with normal saline and then clean the wound. After applying a wound cream cover with the gauze dressing and secure it at the wound site.
