Evidence based practice (EBP) :

It is a patient centered approach found in scientific researchs, clinical practice and patient experiences.

Healthcare workers and nurses must consider the approach while determining the care and treatment.

The transition to EBP has impacted nursing in several ways. This program emphasizes the critical thinking in students. The students will consider the patient's cultural, clinical, religious and socioeconomic background along with relevant scientific research.

Benifits of evidence based practice (EBP) :

The main aim of EBP is to improve the quality of healthcare system. The patient and nurse benifits are as follows...

Improved patient outcomes : using the most current research can help to minimize the complications associated with chronic illness and prevent addictional illness and disease. So that the overall quality of healthcare is improved.

Lower cost of care : Cost of health care is one of the major problem to common people. Using the EBP patient centered approach may help to eliminate unnecessary costs related to treatment in chronic illness patients as well as to reduce cost for healthier patients too.

Superior nursing skills : Including EBP in nursing education and clinical experiences develop more advanced critical thinking and decision making skills. Nurses can able to adapt to conditions, utilize information and work in interdisciplinary teams.

Some examples are infection control, measuring blood pressure non-invasively in children, intravenous chather administration etc.

The main 3 components in EBP are the best external evidence, individual practitioner's clical expertise and patient's preference

Thus, EBP shows increased patient safety and better clinical outcomes.
