(microbiology)Discuss the four most common nonfermentative, gram-negative bacilli isolated in the clinical laboratory.( one parograph)
Step 1
Gram-negative bacteria cause infections including bloodstream infection, pneumonia, surgical site infection or wound, and meningitis. These are resistant to various drugs and are resistant to more antibiotics available. These have inbuilt antibiotics to find new ways to become resistant and pass their genetic material. The E.coli, Acinetobacter, and Klebsiella are gram-negative bacteria.
Step 2
Answer - Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the common non-fermentative bacteria associated with clinical infection mainly nosocomial infections. Acenetobacter baumanni complex, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and Burkholderia spp are generally isolated from the hospital patients mainly from respiratory specimens. These are not always clinically significant.
The non-fermenter isolation from single blood culture is an indication that the organism is acting as a colonizer or contaminant instead a relevant pathogen. The presence of non-fermenter on a gram-stain from a sterile site shows only organisms isolated and is in high number. The clinical significance of this organism is considered.
