Do you think that Selman's view of friendship development is consistent with Piaget's description of the development of concrete operational thought? If so, in what ways? If not, why not?
5 Stages of Selman's view of friendship:
stage 1 (3-7 years) : Momentary playmates
stage 2 (4-9 years) : One way assistance
stage 3 (6-12 years) : Fair weather cooperation
stage 4 ( 11-15 years): Intimate and mutually shared relationships
stage 5( 12-adulthood): Mature friendship
Concrete operational thought of piaget:
This stage takes place in 7 - 11 years. In this stage children think logically about concrete events. They ask reason for everything. They overcomes egocentric and conservation at this stage.
Do you think that Selman's view of friendship development is consistent with Piaget's description of the development of concrete operational thought? If so, in what ways? If not, why not?
Yes , I agree that Selman's view of friendship development is consistent with piaget's description of development of concrete operational thought.
I'm agreeing this, In what ways:
1. Selman agreed that he proposed this theory based on Piaget's work and the constructive view.
2.According to selman, In between 6-12 years children builts Fair weather relations that they helps others to gain others help. This type of logically thinking piaget discussed in concrete operational stage.
3. In stage 3 children begins to understand others feelings and emotions means they overcame egocentric. This egocentric also discussed in Piaget's theory.
4. In stage 4 children begin intimate, mutually shared relationships means There are sharing their feelings and emotions. This is also discussed by Piaget.
In this way I accepting the argument.
