Kari Marie Martinsen, a nurse and philosopher, was born in Oslo
in 1943 .
kari martinsen nursing philosophy emphasizes care as being basic
need for human existence. She argues that as human beings are
basically social and dependent on other people and relies on human
life as a life in interdependence
One of the main goals and principles of Martinsen’s philosophy is
the idea of care and caring should be a comprehensive sentiment not
only in nursing but also in medicine in general. In other words,
she contradict the idea that nurses should care while doctors cure
– both parties should take equal responsibility in both processes
ie,cure and care . A new thought should be developed, a new outlook
for doctors to view their patients – instead of a dehumanizing and
analytical approach common in modern hospitals.
According to her views patients as human beings, as individuals
with dignity in and of themselves . According to her concept
Caring is central to nursing. It involves
concern , compassion and love others , neighbours , fellow patients
that is coupled with concrete, professional and moral
discernment.
According to Martinsen, good human interactions depend on
openness,mercy trust,hope and love.
