What is bends condition in sea mammals? And what is it caused by?
Decompression sickness is an abnormal condition in which dissolved gases like nitrogen (in the form of bubbles) coming out of the body solutions in depressurisation conditions literally means if there is quick diving in the ocean waters. Marine mamals also develop this type of sickness but they are very adept in avoiding this condition after their feeding in deep water. In case of marine mammals such as Dolphins, whales they avoid this condition by avoiding the bends and reduce the taking long.
They reduce getting nitrogen bubble formation in deep waters by slowing their heart rate and also collapsing the little air filled lung chambers. They also limit the transfer of channel blood passing to essential to organ systems mainly to the brain in order to conserve the level of oxygen.
