Why are ethics important in data collection, data analysis and reporting? (100 to 150 words)
The understanding and underlying principles of ethics provide a consistent method of approach when we consider the process of data collection. We need to consider the fact that the process of data collection has associated norms that need to be undertaken and understood for the process to reach its scope. Since the norms promote the aim and scope and determine the need for the data collection process, it would provide unavoidable consequences. It would, therefore, make it more natural for the norms to be utilized. Ethics makes the process straightforward since there is a probability of falsifying records, fabricating samples, and misinterpreting the data if the researchers believe that their process would not yield the necessary results.
Ethics is, therefore, a pillar or even the foundation of good
practices and faith the researchers need to develop to promote care
and accuracy in data collection, management, and
analysis.
