Discuss what Proton MRI imaging of the lung is. Discuss the indication, advantages and disadvantages of using this technique when evaluating V/Q mismatch. Discuss how different pulmonary diseases can be better identified and treated using this technique.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Proton mri imaging helps in assessment of lung function and structure without hyper polarisation that is an absolute requirement for multinuclear acquisition.

This can detect lung tumours, pleural disorders, lymphadenopathy, blood vesselmproblems, v/q mismatch.

advantage -proton mri is free of any kind of harmful radiation as it dies imaging, by creating a magnetic field, thus repeated measurement of lungs does not cause any kind of harm, it is helpful in measuring various lung volume, and conditions of blood vessel so helpful in giving an idea about ventilation and perfusion of lung.

Disadvantage- there are contraindications like metallic implants, cardiac pacemaker.

High cost, so non accessible to a majority of population.

Proton MRI is an advanced modality in early diagnosis of various lung disease. MRI provide better tissue characterisation helpingbin diagnosing disease like interstitial lung disease. it can overcome the drawbacks of xray and ct and it is helpful by giving simultaneous functional and structural information.

You recently requested bids for a new MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine in for your radiology department. As a result, two vendors have submitted quotes based off the specs in your proposal. You anticipate the service life of this machine to be 10 years and that it should generate $600,000 per year at 50% capacity. To remove any potential for bias, your compliance department has provided the bids to you (below) and removed the name of each company. Bid: Company...
