Compare and contrast the clinical applications and safety of MRI and PET imaging

Solutions

Expert Solution

* MRI = Magnetic resonance imaging scans.-

MRI scans show images of our body’s internal organs and tissues.

*PET SCAN = Positron emission tomography scans.-

- PET SCAN show our body it view of complex systemic diseases by showing problems at the cellular level.

- MRI is the radio waves to take images of organs or other structures inside of our  body.

These images provide knowldeges about injuired or unhealthy body tissue.

- PET SCAN provide condition of body functioning and also used for diagnosis the disease .

PET SCAN useually performed for identify lapses in cognitive function and also show how heart is functioning.Help to find out cancer condition in our body and also examine for how body react with cancer.

* PET SCAN also indicate infectious condition in our body.

* In PET SCAN a special dyes which contain radioactive tracer are injected via vein in the blood it depend upon which part is examined and tracer show which part of body is not proper functioning.

* PET SCAN measure how blood flow oxygen saturation uses of sugar .

* PET SCAN mainly done for heart problem - it show blood flow of heart and heart cells and tissue demage condition.

* PET SCAN also use for cancer condition such cancer treatment effect or working and checking for cancer spreading, checking for a cancer recurrence.

* PET SCAN aslo used for brain disorder such as

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • depression
  • epilepsy
  • head trauma
  • Parkinson’s disease and any other nervous system related condition
  • Drink plenty of fluids after the test to help flush the tracers out of your system.
  • It should not conduct in pregnent lady because it harmfull for fetous.

*** MRI AND PET SCAN mainly prefer because it  increased sensitivity for certain organsless exposure to radiation.

* MRI is noninvasive diagnostic test that produces an images of the heart or great vessels through interaction of megnetic fields.

* It Provide information on chamber size and thickness valve and ventricular function and blood flow through coronary artery .

* It is a electrophysiological studies and invasive procedure in which heart is induce to cause

dysrhthimas and conduction defects and also help in finding an accurate diagnosis.

MRI not contain ionizing radiation it show high soft tissue contrast .

But PET SCAN is high sensitivity and fast imaging timebut it have low special resolution.
