Prevention of oral ulcers (Canker sore)

Oral ulcers are the painful lesions seen in the oral mucosa, lips, gums etc.

Causes:

• Due to viral or bacterial infections.
• Funhal infection like candidiasis
• Any injury caused by tooth brush
• Severe immuno compramised state
• Deficiency of vitamin C
• Poor dental hygiene
• Use of certain drugs

Preventive measures of oral ulcer

• Follow good oral hygiene
• Change your tooth brush once in every 3 months.
• Daily inspect the oral cavity for any blisters.
• Increase the intake of vitamin C rich food items like goosberries, strawberries, oranges etc.
• Drink cold fluids during the attacks of severe pain.
• Follow anti fungal mouth wash as per physicians order.
• Avoid extreme salty and spicy food items
• Use soft tooth brush and avoid vigourous tooth cleaning
• Reduce stress and anxiety.
• Go for a regular oral cavity check up
• Do frequent mouth wash to avoid halitosis
• Avoid accidental bites by chewing slowly.
• Monitor your immune status
• Avoid irritants like tobacco smoking etc.
• Include B- complex vitamins in daily diet or use suppliments
