The theory of nursing is described as "a creative and rigorous structuring of ideas which envisages a tentative, purposeful and systematic view of phenomena." Through systematic enquiry, whether in nursing science or practice, nurses are able to gain applicable expertise to improve patient care. The definition refers to "a coherent collection of general propositions used as explanatory principles."
Common concepts of nursing modeling: a metaparadigm
A metaparadigm includes worldviews of theory and ideas specific to a discipline and establishes boundaries that distinguish it from other disciplines. A metaparadigm is intended to help direct others in conducting research and using the scientific methods within the discipline. The metaparadigm for nursing consists of four key concepts: Person ,Health , environment, and nursing
· The person (Patient)
· The environment
· Health
· Nursing (Goals, Roles Functions)
Metaparadigms, or dominant paradigms, set out a scientific discipline's general criteria and emphasis on research efforts. Metaparadigms for researchers may involve many concrete and unique paradigms. Clarifying the metaparadigms and their basic thesis statements promotes a deeper understanding of professional attitudes and offers a greater comprehension of the reach of scientific studies .
The metaparadigms for nursing were first named. The following categories include: individual, community, safety, and nursing. The metaparadigm of the human factor applies to individuals in a given community, family , and society. The metaparadigm for environment characterizes all the human health-related state, national , and global cultural , social , political, and economic conditions.. The Wellness metaparadigm describes life and death processes. The person's metaparadigm explains the role of nursing , nursing activities and priorities and outcomes of nursing. In addition to these four metaparadigms, different variants of the metaparadigm for nursing have been suggested. For example, Watson saw nursing as the core indicator of nursing practice and proposed nursing care as as the fifth metaparadigm .
The health conceptual structure has been used in recent years for the creation of nursing curricula. Conceptual structures are often used as guidelines for constructing principles and definitions for nursing. It is profoundly necessary to translate their clinical experiences into theoretical information for the professional growth of nursing students.
In a new report, "Transition to Professional Nursing" to nursing students, and their input on nursing metaparadigms was analyzed. The participants noted that increasing awareness of nursing paradigms provided the nursing profession with a context and an analytical understanding of the basics of nursing while minimizing burnout. A participant also claimed that nurses were already members of a professional community, even though they dismissed the importance of paradigms for nursing. Within the same report, on the other hand, another student admitted that "I have never heard of paradigms regarding nursing before. But now that I think about my nursing philosophy and nursing experience, it makes me even more committed to my professional duties.
The understanding of nursing metaparadigms by nurses and their knowledge of clinical principles will ultimately affect their career growth. Through vocational education, knowledge of professional identities and values is created. Hence, exploring the assumptions of nursing students regarding basic nursing principles and metaparadigms is of vital importance. This research thus aims to examine the perceptions of nursing students about the four basic metaparadigms of nursing (person, human factor, health / illness, and environment).
